About The British College Benalmadena:

The British College Benalmadena is a private, co-educational, bilingual school situated in Torremuelle, next to the sea, in Benalmádena Costa, one of the most beautiful areas in the Costa del Sol.

Officially recognised by the Spanish Ministry of Education and Science as an accredited British school, The British College offers bilingual education in all three of its sections: Early Years, Primary and Secondary School, following the full British National Curriculum along with the main areas of knowledge from the Spanish Curriculum.

The British College is also recognised by Cambridge University as an International Examining Centre and prepares and presents its pupils to sit IGCSE and GCE-A Level examinations, entitling them to obtain, together with the British Qualifications, the Cambridge International Certificate of Education.

In Year 7 a third language, French or German, is introduced.

Every subject that is studied in The British College is automatically accredited to the equivalent studies in the Spanish curriculum which means that, apart from the British qualifications and the International Certificate of Education, the pupils obtain the Spanish Certificate of “Educación Secundaria Obligatoria” and the “Título de Bachiller”. This means that all the pupils can opt to go to a university in Britain, Spain or in any other part of the world. If Spain is their option then the students of the British College have direct access to the Spanish Universities without having to sit any entrance examinations. Their IGCSEs and A Level results will allow them direct access.

The pupils of the British College Benalmadena, as well as following the official British Physical Education programme, take part in interschool sports competitions and several school teams are officially registered.

The teaching staff consists of fully qualified British and Spanish teachers. The centre also has a Psychology department run by two psychologists and a counsellor and it is headed by a clinical psychologist, who is an expert in infantile-juvenile clinical psychology and cognitive-behavioural therapy.

The school day runs from 9 am to 4 pm for the whole school and there are a large variety of after school activities, as well as support lessons for different subjects, every day of the week for the pupils from Nursery (age 3) upwards.

The school year starts at the beginning of September and finishes at the end of June. It is split into three terms. Before the school year starts, separate meetings are held for the parents from the different sections of the school. The school holidays are those stipulated by the Ministry of Education of the Andalusian District Council.

Throughout the school year The British College organises numerous cultural visits as well as excursions and trips for the pupils from Nursery to Year 13.

The modern facilities in The British College include, apart from the spacious classrooms, all of them equipped with large interactive whiteboards and computers, two laboratories, two I.T. rooms with the latest computing equipment, an art room, a music room, a library and an assembly hall where pupils give theatre performances in English and Spanish and where concerts are given by The British College choir and orchestra.

In addition the whole school is equipped with a wireless network system which through programmes of integral control and providing all the classrooms with connections through PDA’s and wi-fi, creates in the school a 100% interactive campus.

All the rooms in the school have heating and air conditioning.

The British College Benalmadena has 5 recreational areas for different sections of the school, which include extensive sports areas along with a swimming pool.

As regards security, the school employs full time security guards and has a system of video cameras that covers absolutely all the interior and exterior facilities.

The British College is expanding and, as it still has plenty of space available, is constantly extending and improving its facilities.

The school dining room provides meals for all the pupils and the menu, which is freshly cooked daily in the school kitchen, is compulsory for pupils up to and including Year 2.

Two school bus routes run from Churriana, from the East side and from Calahonda, from the West side.

To enrol pupils in the school a meeting must be arranged with the Principal or Deputy Head and, depending upon the year the pupil wants to enter, a written examination must be sat.
